3 Reasons to Schedule Dental Checkups Early in the Year

Do you have a busy schedule? Between working all week, keeping up with your kids’ schedules, and trying to make time to see friends, it can be difficult to remember to care for your oral health. That’s just one more reason why you should schedule your first biannual dental checkup at the beginning of the year. Read on to learn four reasons why the start of the year is the best time to visit your dentist.

#1: Do It While You Have Time

For many people, the time between the holidays and before they go back to work gives them a chance to catch their breath after a hectic couple of months. If you’re worried that you won’t be able to find enough time in your busy schedule to visit the dentist, try to knock out your dental appointments before you and your loved ones have to resume your normal schedules. By doing this, you’ll have one less thing to worry about as the year starts to pick up.

#2: Catch Problems Early On

Not all oral hygiene problems are apparent to the untrained eye. That’s why waiting until something hurts is never a good way to handle your dental checkups. By visiting your dentist for your first biannual appointment at the start of the year, they’ll be able to identify oral health issues early on and administer treatment as quickly as possible.

#3: Maintain a Happy, Healthy Smile

If you let issues like cavities and gum disease go untreated, this can lead to serious problems like tooth loss, gum recession, and bone deterioration. The sooner your dentist can catch oral health issues, the stronger your smile will be. Your hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth and around your gums during your appointment to remove buildups of plaque and tartar. This will lessen your chances of developing these issues, which will allow you to enjoy a healthy smile all year long.

#4: Maximize Your Dental Insurance Benefits

A deductible is the amount of money you are responsible for paying out of pocket toward healthcare costs. Dental insurance benefits often reset at the beginning of the year, which means that you’ll need to meet your deductible again before any treatments are covered. By having your first dental visit at the start of the year, you’ll be able to meet your deductible sooner. This means that if you require restorative work of emergency procedures later in the year, you’ll likely be able to have at least a portion of it covered by your insurance provider.

With this information in mind, go ahead and call your dentist to schedule an appointment. The sooner you get in to see them, the more time you’ll have to appreciate your bright, healthy smile!
